{"id":215,"date":"2025-01-30T09:16:47","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T09:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/me.mwd-dev.lu\/?page_id=215"},"modified":"2025-03-19T09:59:20","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T09:59:20","slug":"awards-2013","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/me.mwd-dev.lu\/fr\/awards-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards &#8211; 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>2013<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Donald Tusk\u00a0<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\">2013\u00a0&#8211; On 6th February,\u00a0on his visit to Luxembourg, the then Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk (now President of the European Council since 1 December 2014) was awarded the \u201cM\u00e9rite Europ\u00e9en\u201d by Luxembourg&rsquo;s Jean-Claude Juncker for his achievements as a \u201cgreat European.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Polish Premier is one of the few statesmen who can reconcile national patriotism with European patriotism,\u201d Juncker said in his speech of honour on Wednesday. He added that it was due to Tusk&rsquo;s efforts that Poland&rsquo;s voice in the EU was being heard today.<\/p>\n<p>President of the \u201cM\u00e9rite Europ\u00e9en\u201d foundation, Jacques Santer, also praised Tusk. He also pointed out the fact that Germany had nominated Tusk for the award, saying that this was a clear sign of the success of the politics of reconciliation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/_res\/uploads\/2025\/01\/tusk.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In his acceptance speech, Tusk frequently spoke about Europe&rsquo;s values, which were all the more important to Poland as its population was deprived of democracy under communist rule.
